Inverter Stocks: A Value BOS Play on Solar

I don't usually follow solar stocks because I think solar is just a little too cool, and the space is too well covered by other analysts for me to feel like I can offer new insights. Nevertheless, the sharp decline in solar stocks this year has been tempting me to dip my toe in the golden stuff. Since I'm no solar stock expert, I've been flirting with buying other people's picks.

The Top 4 Common Solar Power/Electric System Questions

At PocoSolar, we want you to be as well informed and comfortable with your decision to make an investment in solar power as you can possibly be. To that end, here are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions we receive.

How much sun does it take to make a solar power system worth the cost?

Typically, the more sun your home?s solar power system receives, the more of a return on investment you will get. In the best scenario, your roof or ground mount unit will face south or southwest and get several hours of sun each day without a lot of shade. PocoSolar can evaluate your home to make sure it gets enough sun so that a solar power system will be right for you. Get in touch with us for a free consultation so we can thoroughly check your home for solar power viability.

How long will my home?s solar power system be expected to last?

Solar power is still a relatively new technology, without a large reference base on which to draw. However, NASA built a solar power system in the 1950s and it is still in use today. Typically, most home systems are expected to last anywhere between 25 and 35 years. After 25 years, most home solar power systems are expected to generate about 80 percent of the electricity they did in Year One. Regular maintenance, of course, can extend the life of your system.

How big of a solar power system do I need?

That depends on how much electricity you use. It also depends, in some instances, on how much space is available on your roof, or how much space is available around your home if you opt for a ground-mounted system. We can take a look at your home and give you a free consultation regarding what size of system will be the best for you.

I just moved and I don?t know how much electricity I use. How do I determine the right kind of solar power system is right for me?

During our free consultation, we will take into consideration how much electricity the previous residents used, the size of your home, and project what your electricity needs may be in the future.

Asia Report: The Race for Innovation, Dominance and Capital

As the AMSC-Sinovel wind espionage dispute continues to simmer, there is also growing tension in the solar industry as an American company prepares to file an unfair trading practices suit against China. Have China and the United States embarked on a full-fledged renewable energy race, as some American officials have suggested recently? Is there still hope for an alliance that would unite American innovation and Chinese manufacturing? And how will this impact investment as American companies look to China for capital?
