Terahertz Pulse Produces Highly Efficient Carrier Multiplication in GaAs

Researchers at Kyoto University, in Japan, have found that exposing gallium arsenide (GaAs) to a terahertz pulse produces very efficient carrier multiplication. Carrier multiplication plays an important role in the efficiency of photovoltaic nanomaterials, so the work could lead to the development of high-efficiency photovoltaic cells.
